Police on Monday evening detained activists from the Go-Change movement for displaying a “You Won't Dig” banner during the Olympic medalists’ welcome event outside the Belgrade City Hall.

Go-Change said its lawyers and representatives are on their way to the police station.

To recap, Serbian Olympians who won gold, silver, and bronze medals were greeted outside the Belgrade City Hall, where the crowd chanted, “Rio Tinto, get out of Serbia.”

At the event, there were also banners that read “You Won't Dig” and “Freedom for Environmental Activists.”

Three activists were arrested after a large protest against lithium mining held on August 10 in Belgrade and are currently in detention for 30 to 40 days. Their lawyer told N1 that an appeal has been filed against this decision.
