Go-Change submits petition to EU delegation opposing Jadar lithium project

The Go-Change movement on Tuesday submitted over 300,000 citizen signatures to European Union (EU) representatives in Belgrade, demanding that the Jadar lithium mining project in Serbia be excluded from the Union’s strategic projects in non-EU countries.

“This project is a symbol of the violation of the rule of law, a symbol of the breach of democracy, and a symbol of the disregard for environmental standards. These are all fundamental European values, and the European Union is essentially betraying itself here,” Go-Change leader Savo Manojlovic told N1.
The petition has a total of 303,694 signatures.
“Jadar will obviously become a strategic project for Brussels, but this is a clear message that, regardless, the strategic project for Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia is that there will be no mining here, and we will decide on things in our country. These signatures send a message that no one will mine here, that Serbian citizens will continue to defend their country as they have been doing since 2021, through petitions, protests, and blockades,” Manojlovic said.
At the entrance to the EU delegation building, movement activists displayed English-language banners. One directed a message to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, suggesting she should leave lithium and democracy to Serbian citizens and “take” President Vucic and his stabilitocracy.
