Goran Vasic, the acting director of the Serbian Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, pleaded guilty before the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime to forging a document that proposed revoking the cultural heritage status of the General Staff complex in Belgrade. The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Vasic admitted to the charges during his hearing.

Oglas

It was on the basis of this document that the Serbian Government stripped the General Staff complex - previously used by the Army of Serbia and Montenegro and the Ministry of Defense - of its protected status, removing it from the national register of cultural assets.

According to unofficial information obtained by N1, the Prosecutor’s Office acted on an anonymous criminal complaint.

N1 has learned that the court rejected the request of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime to detain Vasic. Instead, the court imposed only a restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting witnesses scheduled to testify in the case.

This practically means that Vasic has not been placed under house arrest or any form of detention.
