Residents of Cacak had organized a protest to block the toll booth in Pakovrace from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, but according to a reporter on the scene, a large number of police and gendarmerie officers were deployed to prevent it.

The atmosphere was tense, with people arriving from all directions. A reporter from Nova noted that the Cacak police chief was also present.

One of the gathered residents called on the police to “stand on the side of justice” rather than “protecting criminals.”

“They should stand with the people, with justice and honesty, not defend the evil that’s destroying us,” one local said.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had promised back in 2021 that vehicles would be able to travel on the motorway from Pakovrace to Pozega by the end of that year. Similar promises were made almost every year since. This year’s St. Vitus Day (June 28) opening was postponed to the first week of July, and now it is been pushed back to the second week.

The Pakovrace-Pozega 19.5-kilometer section of the Milos the Great motorway is set to open to traffic on Sunday, June 6, President Vucic announced on Friday, reported nova.rs.

At the end of June, engineers tasked with overseeing the construction of is section of the Milos the Great motorway unanimously refused to sign the inspection report or approve the list of incomplete work—documents required for building inspectors to certify the section as complete, Insajder reported.
