Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) attorney Marina Kljajic said the Serbian Public Prosecutor’s Office for War Crimes had 27 cases last year, five of which were concluded with judgments issued by the Court of Appeals, one ended with a guilty plea, while 21 cases are still ongoing.
Kljajic told a press conference at the Media Center in Belgrade that in Serbia there are 17 convicts serving prison sentences for war crimes, while one convict is at large.
She pointed out that the Humanitarian Law Center's 2023 report described the work of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for War Crimes as “inefficient” due to “unnecessary stalling of proceedings and the absence of implementation of a revised prosecutorial strategy.”
Kljajic said that, in 2023, the Public Prosecutor’s Office for War Crimes filed three indictments against seven persons, of which “one indictment was transferred from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the other two resulted from its own investigation.”
The results of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for War Crimes indicate a significant lack of productivity, said Kljajic.
