US Ambassador in Pristina Jeffrey Hovenier said that Washington expects the Kosovo government to take action on the draft statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM). Pročitaj više

Hovenier told Klan Kosova that the draft statute is not an unofficial document, adding that it should be sumbitted to the Kosovo Constitutional Court. He recalled that senior European Union and US officials handed the document to Pristina in the belief that it does not require changes to the constitution and does not create another layer of government.

As we have told Kosovo, we believe that it is good enough and it is sufficient for Kosovo to fulfill its obligations using this draft, he said and added that the Kosovo government should use the opportunity to move forward. According to the ambassador, the US and EU will respect any decision by the Constitutional Court.

Hovenier said he doesn’t see the purpose behind Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s proposal to submit the draft statute to the Venice Commission which, he said, can’t rule on whether it is in line with the Kosovo constitution.
