Hungary’s oil company MOL is ready to increase its oil exports to Serbia, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said Wednesday in Belgrade.

He said exports have already doubled since the beginning of November, with another boost planned by the end of December that will bring total volumes to two-and-a-half times the original level.
“The minister and I analyzed the challenges ahead and came to the conclusion that the price of the war in Ukraine is being paid by people who have nothing to do with it,” Szijjarto said following his meeting with Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.
Szijjarto claimed that Brussels intends to ban Hungary from importing Russian oil, which would leave the country reliant on a single pipeline. Citing Serbia as an example of what happens when supply sources are cut off, he described the move as “sabotage.”
“This leads to a dead-end situation like the one you are facing here in Serbia, precisely because you rely on a single pipeline for your energy security. Brussels wants to replicate this situation in Hungary,” he said.
“There is no energy security in Hungary without Serbia, because Hungary receives natural gas through Serbia, which has always been a reliable partner – you have never exploited the situation and have always provided transit at fair prices. So Serbia can count on our full support, especially now,” Szijjarto said.
He emphasized that Hungary would use all available means to ensure Serbia’s oil supply, regardless of the circumstances.
