Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar claimed that ruling SNS MP Ugljesa Mrdic was saved in the nick of time after being on hunger strike for an alleged 11 days. Mrdic started his hunger strike at about the same time as Hrka.
Hrka started her hunger strike in front of the Serbian parliament as a protest, demanding accountability for the Novi Sad Railway Station tragedy which claimed the life of her son a year earlier. She started the hunger strike at 11:52 (the time of the collapse of a concrete canopy at the station) a day after the November 1 memorial gathering in Novi Sad on the 1st anniversary of the tragedy.
“He invited me to talks but since he said he does not have competence over the prosecution nor over my demands, I don’t know what to ask from him, what we could talk about a year later,” Hrka said adding that Vucic’s extended the invitation to draw attention to himself and hide the fact a flashbang grenade was thrown at her on the night of Sunday-Monday from the tent camp set up by regime supporters on the roads and in the park between the presidency and parliament.
