From June 1, 2017, when the Penal Code was changed to include sexual harassment, until January 31, 2021, 737 people in Serbia were reported for the crime, and 589 investigations were underway, Maja Popovic, Justice Minister, said on Friday.

Taking part in the dialogue on changes of the law banning discrimination, she said that 136 indictments for sexual harassment were filed, and the courts handed down 95 convictions.

“The recognition of women as employees who could be in an unequal position to other workers is crucially important if it’s known that women are more often discriminated. They are dominant victims of domestic violence and partnerships and often stay in the violent environment because of economic reasons,” Popovic said.
