Prosecutors in Novi Sad indicted 13 people over the November 1 collapse of a concrete awning at the entrance to the city’s main railway station which claimed 15 lives.

The Novi Sad Higher Public Prosecution filed the indictment against former Transport, Infrastructure and Construction Minister Goran Vesic, former CEO of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure company Jelena Tanaskovic and 11 others. A statement said they are being charged with crimes against public safety and causing public endangerment.

The indictment includes experts involved in and the overseeing of the reconstruction of the railway station, charging them for irregularities in the construction work.

It said the indictment was filed following an investigation and submitted to the Higher Court in Novi Sad.

The prosecution wants Vesic returned to custody immediately and called for pre-trial detention for all the other defendants.
According to the prosecution, the court should award compensation and ban all the defendants from working.
The Higher Public Prosecution said it expects the Higher Court to confirm the indictment quickly to ensure immediate and efficient proceedings.
