Indjija town authorities withhold basic requirements for marching students

IN Medija editor Verica Marincic said that the authorities are pressuring both private individuals and communal services companies to make sure they don’t provide anything for the 5,000+ students marching from Belgrade to Novi Sad. Indjija is the halfway mark between the two cities.

She said that the local authorities are refusing to allow the use of a sports hall and local schools which means that the students will have to spend the night outdoors. She added that stores are being ordered not to sell tents and the local communal services have been instructed not to provide a drinking water cistern and portable latrines. The students are planning to camp on the town’s central square and are also being denied power outlets. The local authorities even went as far as banning schools from providing tables for people to put food and drink on for the students.
