The weapons seized from migrants along the border with Hungary came from the Albanian mafia in Kosovo and Metohija, said Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic, the Serbian state TV (RTS) reported.

Gasic told a cornerstone-laying ceremony for a new Gendarmerie Command building in Rakovica, Belgrade, that the Gendarmerie unit is the pride of Serbia and that no organized criminal group is welcome in Serbia, reported the RTS.

The Minister said that the organized criminal groups smuggling migrants in northern Serbia are assisted by Albanian mafia from Kosovo and Metohija (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province).

“These are not migrants, they are organized criminal groups that we are fighting against. We need to distinguish between migrants and organized criminal groups assisted by the Albanian mafia coming from our southern province. All the weapons are coming from down there,” said Gasic.
