Responding to a request of the People’s Movement of Serbia for access to information of public importance, the Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry Nis Police Department confirmed that weapons had gone missing from the Pantelej Police Station in the Serbian city of Nis.

At the beginning of December, N1 unofficially learnt that 63 guns handed in by Serbian citizens at the Pantelej police station during the illegal weapons collection campaign went missing from July to August 2023.

The campaign was launched in May 2023, after two mass murders in the country, one that took place at the Belgrade Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school and the other in the villages of Dubona and Malo Orasje.

In its reply to the People’s Movement of Serbia, the Internal Affairs Ministry said both the prosecutor’s office and the Internal Control Sector have been informed about this case.

The People’s Movement of Serbia said it expects information from the relevant authorities on what happened to the weapons in question, and that it demands a swift reaction of competent authorities.
