Internal Affairs Ministry rejects complaint by EuroPride organizers

"We are not surprised by this police decision, but this is just one more reason in a series of reasons why I say that on Saturday, September 17 at 5 pm we will walk for our basic human rights. We will walk for love, freedom and solidarity,” said EuroPride coordinator Goran Miletic.

“The next step that awaits us is that we will appeal against this police decision with the Administrative Court, which has a legal obligation to rule on our appeal before the march takes place," explained Miletic.

Miletic noted that the Constitutional Court of Serbia has ruled the ban on Pride unconstitutional four times.

"The practice of the European Court of Human Rights is similar, according to which the state does not have the right to ban the Pride for security reasons, but is obliged to provide a sufficient number of police officers and guarantee the safety of the assembled people,” said Miletic.

The Serbian Interior Ministry passed a decision Tuesday to ban the EuroPride 2022 Parade as well as the family march organized by ‘anti-globalists’, both scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 17 in Belgrade.

The Ministry said that, following a security assessment, it was determined that there is a high risk that the safety of the participants of both walks on the announced routes will be endangered, as well that of other citizens.
