The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) said on Tuesday that police officers checked the identities of 119 people, arresting one and filing charges against another overnight.

Under Serbian law, the police have the right to check personal ID but have to have a reason such as suspicious behavior or presence at a crime scene and must show police ID. Also, Serbians over the age of 16 must have personal ID cards with them and show it at the demand of the police. Police officers usually take down the names of people whose ID they check.

The MUP press release claimed that all road blocks were removed and traffic was unobstructed.

It appealed to the public to refrain from any illegal activities and not block traffic, especially in ways that could pose a danger.
