International Workers’ Day marked across Serbia
Serbians marked May 1, the International Workers’ Day, by organizing traditional early morning picnics.
The tradition dates back to 1893 when a group of Serbian workers gathered at a restaurant in central Belgrade wearing red bands.
International Workers’ Day became a national holiday in Yugoslavia in 1945 under a decree signed by the late President Josip Broz Tito. In Serbia, the holiday is celebrated on May 1-2.
Serbians traditionally go out to picnicking grounds.
N1 crews visited on Wednesday morning the Kosutnjak area in Belgrade, the Bubanj Memorial Park in the city of Nis and Novi Sad’s Kamenica Park where barbecuing with family and friends was organized.
