Jeremic steps down as People’s Party leader

“I made this decision a few days ago, and this evening I shared it with the people I believed needed to be notified about it before the rest of the public – the members of the People’s Party Presidency,” said Jeremic.

In view of the election results, “this is the only responsible step that preserves the dignity of the party and a prerequisite for it to rise again, staying true to its original policy and principles,” he wrote.

Jeremic said he will not be standing for party leader again, and that his successor would be elected by the members at the party’s electoral assembly.

He added that he supports the citizens’ and opposition parties’ request for a repeat of elections at all levels.
