Deputy head of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) MP caucus Snezana Paunovic said the SPS would not lose its identity by joining the Movement for the People and State, adding that only those who are unsure of this identity are afraid of this.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said earlier this month that time has come for the establishment of a “great Movement for the People and State,” which he repeatedly announced last year.

The idea of the movement, as he earlier explained, is to assemble several parties in one place, including the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), as well as movements, associations and many important figures.

It was first announced that the movement would be formed on June 28, 2023, but the event was postponed.

Paunovic told the daily Politika that she supports Vucic’s initiative for the formation of this movement and that those who join it will not be swallowed up, but rather put aside ideological differences and unite around a common goal.

“This is a historic moment when we need to show if we are ready to protect our people, state and national interest. It is in this context that I see the president’s desire to unite all those who are aware of the importance of the moment and the need to eliminate petty ideological differences and come together around one goal,” said Paunovic.
