Judges, prosecutors call for dismissal of Chief Prosecutor Stefanovic

The group calling itself Defend the Profession said that Stefanovic has been violating the constitution and laws and directing prosecution activities towards the defense of the Vucic regime. “We demand his immediate dismissal and accountability for harsh violations of the law and ethical norms. The public prosecution must serve the public and justice, not the interests of one man and his party. The rule of law must be defended with clear and determined action,” it said.

“Amid the current brutality of Aleksandar Vucic’s regime which is beating people up on the streets and pushing society into uncontrolled violence, Nenad Stefanovic has initiated politically motivated investigations to prosecute regime victims like suspects,” their press release said.

It added that his role “is increasingly openly limited to being a political instrument to suppress critics of the regime, hiding scandals and implementing selective justice”.
