By saying that “the prosecutors who do not protect order and the law will be replaced,” the Serbian president has written a new chapter in the twelve-year subjugation and humiliation of the judiciary, says a statement signed by 220 Serbian judges and prosecutors.

Following countless instances of defamation and targeting of the few judges and prosecutors who refused to silently witness the devastation of the judiciary, the president has taken a step further by openly announcing his intention to influence the composition of prosecutorial bodies based on his own assessments, the statement reads.

Today, the statement adds, the president disapproves of the prosecutors who do not act in accordance with his expectations, “tomorrow it could just as easily extend to judges, lawyers, and any other citizens who refuse to comply with the political orders of an unauthorized institution.”

“We therefore believe it is high time for the judges and prosecutors who have silently observed the process of judicial subjugation to raise their voices and oppose such actions,” they said.

The statement has so far been signed by 220 judges and prosecutors across Serbia, but the signatories emphasized that the list is not final.
