The pro-European movement of Serbian democrats rightly demands that three key priorities from the ODIHR Report be fulfilled before the elections, Josip Juratovic, the German Social Democrat and head of the Bundestag Committee for Cooperation with the Western Balkans, told Demostat, commenting on the demands of the opposition in Serbia to improve election conditions.

Juratovic noted that it is first necessary to edit the electoral roll and „clean it of illegitimate voters,“ Demostat wrote.

„Secondly, in order for the election race to be conducted equally, the opposition parties must have equal access to the Public Service. The third condition is that this procedure cannot be carried out during the election campaign, this means that in order to solve all the technical issues for the implementation of fair elections, sufficient time is needed, and this is obviously not possible before the autumn,“ the representative of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, which leads the ruling coalition in that country, said.

Juratovic assessed that it would be good if „experts from the European Union, who will be at the disposal of the negotiating parties, are also involved in the whole process.“

„Additionally, such a commission would also be useful for Serbia in terms of pre-accession negotiations with the EU,“ Juratovic noted.

Demostat recalled that representatives of the largest opposition list, „Serbia Against Violence“ met on April 11 with members of the EU Affairs Committee in the Bundestag. In addition to Josip Juratovic, Green MP Boris Mijatovic, as well as Liberal Democratic Party MP Tomas Hacker took part in those talks. The main topic was how to create fair, equal conditions for all participants in the upcoming local elections throughout Serbia, as well as in the repeated elections for the Belgrade City Assembly.
