Kamberi: Kosovo Independence Day marked in Belgrade for the first time

The fifteenth anniversary of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence was marked in Belgrade at an event organized by Pristina’s Liaison Office in Belgrade, Serbian MP from the ethnic Albanian community Shaip Kamberi confirmed.

On this occasion, Kamberi, who is the leader of the United Presevo Valley party, posted two short messages on Facebook, KoSSev reported.

“This is the first time since the opening of the Liaison Office that the Kosovo Independence Day was marked in Belgrade,” wrote Kamberi, adding that the event was organized by the Pristina Liaison Office.

Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo Petar Petkovic described the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence in Belgrade as a provocation.

“This is a pure provocation by Pristina, there is no Liaison Office, only a liaison officer whose offices are in the EU Delegation building,” Petkovic wrote on Twitter, adding that the event was organized “in the living room of an apartment the Pristina liaison officer rents and this cannot be official.”

He also posted photos showing dozens of people in a room in which the Kosovo flag is displayed, and one of himself and Pristina’s liaison officer in Belgrade Jetish Jashari.

KoSSev said that Kosovo’s news portal Gazeta Express reported on the event saying that it was held at the Pristina representative’s residence in Belgrade and quoted Kamberi as saying that there were no problems, that is, that no one tried to prevent the event.

The fifteenth anniversary of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence was marked in Pristina on February 17 with a number of activities and events that were attended by Pristina’s highest officials, including Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Vjosa Osmani.
