KFOR said on Tuesday that it would be conducting a joint exercise with EULEX, the Kosovo Police and Kosovo Security Force (KSF) on November 20-21.

KFOR told N1 that it was carefully following the situation following reports of an exchange of fire between armed Kosovo Albanians and Serbian soldiers in the Ground Safety Zone on the Serbian side of the administrative boundary line which is patrolled by both Serbian soldiers and KFOR personnel. A written reply recalled the KFOR does not have the mandate to enforce the law and warned that nothing should be done that could raise tensions.

A press release said that the KSF will participate in the Golden Sabre 2025 “in accordance with its original civil protection mandate”.

“Golden Sabre 2025 will involve a large number of personnel, vehicles, and resources that will operate in the exercise area, its vicinity, and along the main adjacent communication routes. The exercise will test the application of crisis management capabilities, skill-sets and procedures in a number of complex security scenarios, including those involving the safe handling and disposal of explosive devices and hazardous materials,” the press release said.

“This joint exercise symbolizes our strong commitment to fostering mutual cooperation and coordination for the benefit of all living in Kosovo,” the press release quoted KFOR Commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş as saying.
