The KFOR mission said Thursday it has increased security measures to protect critical infrastructure following an attack on the Ibar-Lepenac water canal in Zubin Potok, northern Kosovo, reported Koha.

Regional Command East remains ready to provide security, logistical and engineering support to all communities living in Kosovo, KFOR said in a statement.

KFOR reiterated that it continues to implement its mandate - based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 - to provide a safe and peaceful environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement, at all times and impartially.

The attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal was carried out on November 29 in the village of Varage, near Zubin Potok. The canal supplies water to northern Kosovo, Pristina and its surroundings, and provides cooling water for Kosovo Energy Corporation's thermal power plants.
