Members of northern Kosovo municipal election commissions from the ranks of the Belgrade-backed Serb List (SL) handed in their resignations on Monday, KoSSev reported.

KoSSev repeatedly tried to get in touch with Serb List leader Zlatan Elek for a comment, but there was no reply.

The Kosovo Central Election Commission confirmed the information on the resignations for Koha.

Central Election Commission spokesperson Valmir Elezi confirmed for Koha that the Commission received resignations from four members of the municipal election commissions for the municipalities of Leposavic, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Northern Mitrovica, previously appointed by the Central Election Commission as representatives of the Serb List.

The Serb List told a media conference on Sunday that it opposes the referendum to recall the current mayors in the north.

“The position of SL is that citizens should not participate in the referendum called by (Kosovo Prime Minister) Albin Kurti, for a simple reason – because he did everything to make it fail,” said Serb List leader Elek at a media conference on Sunday in Mitrovica North.

The US Embassy to Kosovo has said that it regrets that the Serb List does not support the vote for the dismissal of the four mayors of the northern municipalities of Kosovo. It noted that that democratic participation in the vote makes the leaders to be representatives of the people they serve.
