European Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said that she had a constructive meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels on Wednesday.
“We discussed concrete steps on Serbia’s EU path, the implementation of the Growth Plan and reiterated our expectation on a clear Serbian orientation towards the EU. I emphasised that enlargement is a whole of society process. This is not possible without strong civil society and independent media. It is the best way forward,” she wrote in an X post.

Vucic wrote in an Instagram post that they had a comprehensive conversation about events in Serbia, the reform agenda, speeding up accession talks and the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
“I pointed out the importance we attach to reform activities, primarily to secure better lives for our citizens with focus on rule of law, economic competitiveness and social inclusion… I expressed the expectation that our progress and efforts would be recognized by EU member states and will result in a speedier integration process,” he wrote adding that Serbia remains committed to meeting obligations in regard to the Growth Plan as well as strengthening cooperation and stability in the region and protecting international law and Serbia’s national interests.
According to Vucic, the meeting with Kos was in preparation for talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Council President Antonio Costa over the next few days.
