According to the indictment, the accused were involved in the killing of 42 ethnic Albanian civilians on January 15, 1999, in the village located within Kosovo’s Stimlje municipality.
“The accused first surrounded Racak and then shelled the village from a distance. They then conducted house-to-house searches, separating men from women and children, then forcing them to leave the village, while the men were detained and executed,” the indictment reads.
The prosecution further alleges that, as members of the Serbian Interior Ministry and the 243rd Mechanized Brigade of the VJ’s Pristina Corps, the individuals participated in “inhumane treatment, destruction of property, mass deportation, and the ethnic cleansing of the civilian population” throughout 1998 and 1999.
