Kosovo Parliament Speaker says genocide suit almost ready

Speaking after a meeting of the Parliament Presidency, Konjufca said the genocide charges are being drafted in consultation with experts.

“I can’t say the exact month but I do know that a big job has been done so far. We consulted the most significant experts, people who know about drafting an expert suit against Serbia for genocide over the people of Kosovo …. It’s close, ask the government for details,” he said.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said in 2021 that his government would file a genocide suit against Serbia with the International Court of Justice.

Kosovo-based experts said later that a genocide suit can’t be filed for procedural and other reasons. Kosovo Law Institute investigator Gzim Shala said that there is no procedural legitimacy to file the suit while Kosovo Humanitarian Law Fund chief Bekim Blakaj said a genocide suit can’t be filed without a thorough investigation which would take a long time to complete.
