Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti told his cabinet on Friday that he would prepared a genocide law suit against Serbia to be filed with the International Court of Justice.

“We will draw up a law suit for genocide against Serbia which we will file with the International Court of Justice,” Pristina daily Gazeta Express reported him as saying at the cabinet meeting as part of his presentation of the government program for 2021-25.

Kurti is also reported to have said that he would be conducting a principled dialogue with Serbia to reach a mutual recognition agreement. “We will have a prepared, principled dialogue with Serbia which will result in an agreement on mutual recognition,” he said.

The head of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo said on Friday evening that the law suit is impossible. “Kurti’s announced law suit against Serbia is impossible because the self-proclaimed Kosovo is not a state and it is just another attempt to draw public attention away from the fact that Pristina has no response to the social and economic expectations of the citizens,” he is quoted as saying in a press release. Petrovic said that the threat of a law suit is an attempt to destabilize the situation in the region “and still has the dangerous hope that it could profit from that scenario”.
