The Kosovo Police raided all 9 branches of the Serbian Post Office in northern majority-Serb municipalities, the KoSSev news portal reported.

It said that post offices were raided and sealed in Mitrovica North, Zubin Potok and Zvecan. Pictures posted on the portal showed police officers outside the Post Office branches.

KoSSev quoted senior police officer Veton Elsani who said the police raided the post office branches after the Kosovo Regulatory Body for Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) reported that those branches were operating illegally. “We received information that these branches were operating without licenses,” the police Deputy Chief for the north of Kosovo said.

KoSSev recalled that the Kosovo authorities shut down all Republic of Serbia financial institutions in Kosovo in a similar way three months ago.

It said that activists of the Serbian Democracy organization threw white envelopes at the police.

The authorities in Pristina declared the Euro the only legal currency in Kosovo several months ago, effectively banning the Serbian Dinar which was in wide use in the northern municipalities.
