Kosovo police units leave Jarinje crossing, locals remove tents

Kosovo police special units withdrew from the Jarinje crossing, N1 crew confirmed reporting from the site in Kosovo's north.

According to N1's Nenad Bozovic, the tents set up by the local Serbs have also been removed and the traffic on the Jarinje-Kosovska Mitrovica road has been unblocked.

Although the area was supposed to be unblocked at 8 a.m., it did not happen before noon.

KFOR forces arrived at the Jarinje administrative crossing in the morning and will stay at the location following the withdrawal of Kosovo police units. According to the Brussels agreement, KFOR will be there for the next two weeks.

Severna Mitrovica Mayor Milan Radojevic said that, in accordance with the Brussels agreement, one lane was cleared for the KFOR vehicles to take the positions at the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings.

N1's reporter from Pristina carried the Kosovo government's statement, saying that the goal of the agreement has been reached and that this temporary one should be replaced with a long-term solution.

Leposavici mayor Zoran Todic noted that Belgrade and Pristina managed to reach an agreement with the mediation of the European Union. He said the locals were responsible and did not allow any incident to escalate.

Both the Serbs and Albanians as well as everyone in the region need peace, he underlined.
People are ready to remove the barricades and leave to their homes, said Todic.
