The director of Serbia's Government Office for Kosovo Petar Petkovic attacked on Monday Branimir Stojanovic, for running against the Serb List in the local elections in the central Gracanica municipality, accusing him of political opportunism and "a direct support to Serbia's enemies who work against Serbs and their unity in Kosovo."

"That is why we once again loudly emphasise that only the candidates of the Serb List have the support of official Belgrade and the state of Serbia," Petkovic, a member of ruling Serbia's Progressive Party (SNS), said in a statement.

He insisted that the elections in Kosovo were an opportunity for the Sers to show how to defend and protect national interests with joint forces and "unite under one flag - the flag of the Serb List – and be a barrier to those who would destroy Serbian unity."

"Now, when all Albanian parties are uniting against Serbs in Kosovo, there are political opportunists who, for personal political gain and hunger for positions, want to weaken their people and their positions and work directly to harm us," Petkovic said.

Serbia's state RTS TV has reported that Stojanovic, an independent politician, has decided to be a candidate after, according to him, "many people in Gracanica are unhappy with the Serb List nominee Ljiljana Subaric, and with the way how she was selected and imposed as the Serb List candidate."
