The four Serb youths were arrested on the night of Monday-Tuesday following a verbal altercation with police officers in the center of the majority Serb half of the divided city of Mitrovica.
The protest was staged following reports that the youths were being held and questioned at the police station in the southern ethnic Albanian half of the city. The crowd carried banners saying Kurtiland Police in reference to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that his visit to Mitrovica on Tuesday was not directed against anyone but was necessary to understand the needs of the local population. A Kosovo Serb politician was arrested during the visit.
The crowd stood down at the request of the parents of the arrested youths and reports that they would be brought to the police station in the north.
