Crowds of local residents gathered at the local sports hall in Mitrovica North to sign a petition to dismiss the mayor of the majority Serb part of the divided city in the north of Kosovo.

The ethnic Albanian mayors of four majority Serb northern Kosovo municipalities were elected in a vote that was boycotted by the local Serbs. Following violent protests, the authorities in Pristina said that the mayors could be dismissed by public petition. The local assembly in Mitrovica decided to launch the petition earlier this week.

The crowd includes officials of the Belgrade-backed Serb List.
