Following the initiative to dismiss the mayor of Mitrovica North, which was handed in Thursday, Kosovo Serbs on Friday also submitted initiatives for the dismissal of Zubin Potok and Leposavic mayors.
Zubin Potok municipal council head Vedat Mehmeti said he received the initiative for the dismissal of mayor Izmir Zeqiri, signed by three citizens, by email, KoSSev reported. In line with the administrative instructions, Mehmeti notified the Ministry of Local Government Administration and the Central Election Commission.
A request for the dismissal of Leposavic mayor Lulzim Hetemi was also submitted on Friday, and was received by Leposavic municipal council head Gorski Buric.
“They came and handed in the request to Gorski. The procedure is under way, the request will be taken to Pristina on Monday,” said deputy Kosovo Minister for Communities and Returns, Radoica Radomirovic, who is from Leposavic.
Earlier in the week Kosovo Serbs tried but failed to file requests to dismiss the mayors of four Serb-majority municipalities in the north of Kosovo – Mitrovica North, Leposavic, Zvecan and Zubin Potok – elected in a vote boycotted by the Serbs. The election of those four mayors led to violent protests earlier this year.
