Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said in Tirana on Monday that Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic was not interested in signing the Basic Agreement and its implementation annex.

Kurti told reporters after the Berlin Process Summit that he suggested the signing of the agreement and annex reached in Brussels and Ohrid respectively to Brnabic at the summit in the capital of Albania.

“We have an agreement with Serbia which is based on de facto mutual recognition. It has to be implemented. We also have an implementation annex, we asked for it to be signed but Serbia refused,” Kurti said. The implementation annex was agreed at a meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kurti with European Union officials in the North Macedonia town of Ohrid earlier this year but was not signed.

Kurti commented Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s statement that the north of Kosovo is “no man’s land”, saying that the north of Kosovo is Kosovo territory. “We need more security for Kosovo. The Kosovo Police is in the north and the south. The north of Kosovo is Kosovo. Territorial integrity is inviolable, state sovereignty is protected by democratic rule,” he said.

Kurti added that he wants a stronger KFOR presence in the north along with joint patrols along the border with Serbia.
