Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Monday that KFOR requested more time to remove the barricades set up in northern mainly-Serb municipalities.

He said that Internal Affairs Minister Xhelal Svecla is in Mitrovica and is in constant contact with the KFOR command about the removal of the barricades. “Those barricades will not be tolerated for long,” he told reporters in Pristina.

“This is the final stage of Serbia’s illegal structures in the north of Kosovo,” Kurti said.

Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi said that “a Russian-Serbian plan was in place to burn down the Jarinje border crossing which, according to him, was prevented by Kosovo institutions in cooperation with Western partners... “despite the fact that the Serbian police prevented hooligans from burning down Jarinje”.

He added that there was never any need for Serbian troops in the Republic of Kosovo, not in the 20th nor in the 19th century. The demand (by Belgrade to return Serbian troops to Kosovo under UN SC Resolution 1244) shows that they are still in the 19th and 20th centuries. NATO will be against that and they understand that those miserable Serbian soldiers have nowhere to go in Kosovo. This is more an expression of ineptitude than power,” he said.
