Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Wednesday that local elections in the northern majority-Serb municipalities will be held this autumn.

“I am preparing everything for the elections which will be held in the autumn,” he told Radio TV Slovenia.
Kurti voiced the hope that the Belgrade-backed Serb List would stand in those elections but added that the international community needs to convince them to field candidates.

Kurti denied that his government was to blame for the deterioration of the situation in Kosovo saying that “we are battling violent extremists who attacked KFOR troops, the Kosovo Police and journalists”. “It’s important for us to have rule of law without violent extremists along with security and peace,” he said.

The Kosovo Prime Minister accused the Serbian authorities of preventing the integration of the Kosovo Serbs in the northern municipalities and claimed that the Serbs living in the south are well integrated. “They benefit from that while the Serbs in northern Kosovo don’t live so well because they aren’t integrated,” he said.
