Kurti receives mandate to form new Kosovo Government

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced on Wednesday that she has formally tasked Albin Kurti, leader of the Self-Determination Movement, with forming the country’s next government. The move fulfills the constitutional requirement necessary to convene a parliamentary session for the election of a new cabinet.

“In accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo, I have today appointed Albin Kurti as the Prime Minister-designate to form the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. I wish him success in leading the new administration and in his work serving the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. I wish him the best of luck,” Osmani wrote on Facebook.

The Kosovo Parliament is expected to hold a vote on the formation of Kurti’s third cabinet on Wednesday evening.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Parliament was officially constituted with the election of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker. Five deputy speakers were also appointed, including Slavko Simic of the Serb List.
