European Union envoy for the Kosovo talks Miroslav Lajcak said on Thursday that delegations from Belgrade and Pristina met in Brussels to discuss a solution to the license plates problem.

Tensions ran high several weeks ago when the Kosovo government decided to ban cars with Serbian license plates from entering Kosovo. A temporary solution was found with EU mediation by using white stickers to cover the Serbian coat of arms on the license plates. The Serbs in the north of Kosovo blocked two border crossings in protest for days.

“Today, the expert delegations of Kosovo and Serbia met for the second meeting of the Working Group on License Plates in Brussels. Delegations engaged constructively and continued their exchange of views. I encourage them to find a permanent solution for the sake of their citizens,” Lajcak wrote in a Twitter post.

The EU envoy did not say whether concrete progress was made at the meeting.
