Lajcak: EU not opposed to opening Mitrovica bridge

The Kosovo government has been pushing for the opening of the bridge which is under KFOR control, claiming that an agreement to open it is in place despite opposition from the US and EU and KFOR warnings of possible security situations.

“The EU has repeatedly stressed that the issue of the Mitrovica bridge must be discussed in the EU-facilitated Dialogue. Allegations that the EU is against opening the bridge or has changed its position are misleading,” Lajcak wrote in an X post.

He warned that imposing a decision against the will of affected citizens does not contribute to normalizing relations. “Good governance understands the sensitivities of the minority. We will discuss how to implement the agreement on opening the bridge at the next meeting in Brussels,” he added.
