Lajcak, Escobar brief NATO officials on situation in Kosovo
NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana discussed the situation in Kosovo with European Union and US envoys Miroslav Lajcak and Gabriel Escobar at the Alliance headquarters in Brussels on Monday.
A NATO press release said that the meeting was part of regular consultations on the situation in Kosovo and developments in the broader Western Balkans region.
It added that KFOR remains extremely vigilant and has the capability and personnel to continue implementing its UN mandate fully and on a daily basis, for the benefit of all communities living in Kosovo.
“NATO also continues to support the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina – as the main platform to build lasting peace and security across the region – and all efforts aimed at advancing European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans,” it said.
The press release said that Escobar and Lajcak also briefed NATO Ambassadors on their diplomatic efforts and engagements with all parties in the region.
Geona said in a Twitter post that cooperation is the key to stability. “NATO-EU cooperation is key to security and stability in Kosovo and the Western Balkans, and KFOR’s 's role remains essential,” he wrote.
