No political solution to de-escalate the tensions in the north of Kosovo can be achieved without the affected population, European Union (EU) Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak said following a series of meetings.

Lajcak and US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar arrived Monday in Pristina where they met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, opposition representatives, leaders of the Belgrade-backed Serb List (Srpska lista) and civil society representatives, KoSSev reported.

“With representatives of Srpska Lista and civil society, we highlighted the need for Kosovo Serbs to participate in new elections,” wrote Lajcak in a Twitter post.

The Serb List issued a brief statement with no mention of the request for the Serbs’ participation in elections, saying that they reiterated “the legitimate requests of the Serb people who have been peacefully protesting for days.”
