Lajcak: No side withdrew from Ohrid Agreement

EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, stated in Pristina that Serbia has retracted a letter sent to the EU last year, expressing reservations about the Agreement on the path to normalization with Kosovo and its Implementation Annex, emphasizing that neither side has withdrawn from the Ohrid and Brussels agreements. KoSSev reported that in the December letter, Serbia’s then-Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, stated that the Agreement was „acceptable only in the context that does not imply de facto and de jure recognition of Kosovo.“

After meeting Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi, Lajcak confirmed Serbia withdrew the letter, and that the Agreement and its Annex, agreed upon in Brussels and Ohrid, are legally binding, Radio Free Europe reported.

„The Ohrid Agreement is legally binding, and we are working on its implementation. Neither side has withdrawn, and we are discussing with Kosovo and Serbia how to expedite its execution,“ Lajčak said.

The Agreement also states that Serbia will not oppose Kosovo’s membership in international organizations and that both sides will recognize each other’s documents and symbols, including passports, diplomas, license plates, and customs stamps.

Both sides will follow the goals and principles outlined in the UN Charter, respecting state sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, self-determination, human rights, and non-discrimination.

Lajcak also mentioned a new round of dialogue between chief negotiators Petar Petkovic and Bislimi but did not specify when it will occur.

The Slovak diplomat will not visit Belgrade after Pristina, as he recently met Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic at the Global Security Forum in Prague.
