The number of landfill fires has tripled in Serbia over the past 7 years, the Civic Initiatives organization said on Wednesday.
It said that landfill fires were reported in Valjevo, Uzice, Kraljevo, Mladenovac, Temerin and a number of other places across Serbia.
It said that the problem lies in the fact that garbage is dumped at both controlled sanitary landfills and dumps that are not sanitary which are almost completely full.
