A group of Belgrade University Law School professors condemned the violent actions of the police against students on the night of Wednesday-Thursday and demand accountability for the violence.
Riot police attacked and arrested a group of students in front of the law school, including a US citizen.
The statement was signed by more than 30 professors and associates. They said that the illegal attempt to enter the law school was the second time in its history that armed men appeared at its entrance. “The first time was in 1941 when the building was taken over by the Wermacht which is why the men in uniforms who repeated that event did not act as a legitimate and legal Serbian police unit which protects the law and civil rights but as the Praetorian guard of an illegitimate regime,” it said.
The statement demanded an immediate reaction by the authorities, an immediate end to repression against the students and the public, respect for the inviolability of the University and accountability for everyone who ordered the violence, primarily the Internal Affairs Minister and the Director of Police as well as accountability for everyone involved in “the brutal and dishonorable demonstration of force”.
