Lawyer Aleksandar Ivanovic, representing student Nikolina Sindjelic, asked why prosecutors have not come up with surveillance videos from the government headquarter’s garage where Sindjelic and a number of others, including an Italian national, were held overnight after being arrested at a protest in central Belgrade. Sindjelic was threatened by police Lt Colonel Marko Kricak, commander of the JZO unit which provides security to officials and buildings.
Ivanovic added that he believes that the case will end with key evidence missing. “We’re still at the start. We asked for disclosure of evidence 10 days ago and got new witness testimony and are doing what the prosecutors should have done. The whole thing is going on too long and that tells us that someone is destroying evidence…. They want the Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) Internal Affairs Service to conduct the investigation instead of prosecutors,” he said.
