An appeal has been submitted to the Misdemeanor Court in Belgrade challenging the ruling sentencing three activists - Ivan Bjelic, Nikola Ristic, and Jevdjenije-Julijan Dimitrijevic - to prison terms of 40 and 30 days, respectively, their lawyer Marko Pantic said in a post on the X social media platform.

Judge Goran Milutonovic sentenced the three activists for their role in blocking a railway following the protest against lithium mining held on Saturday, August 10 in Belgrade. They face charges of disturbing public peace and order with indecent, rude, and insolent behavior.

Lawyer Pantic explained that the Misdemeanor Court has a legal deadline of 24 hours to forward the case files, including the appeals, to the Misdemeanor Appellate Court. This court then has 48 hours from the receipt of the files to rule on the appeal.
