A mass gathering called "Let's meet on Sretenje" is being held today in the city of Kragujevac. It was organized by students, but is attended by a large number of citizens from all parts of Serbia.
The rally is already underway and, according to N1 reporter, there is a spirit of unity and empathy among the attendees.
„It’s hard for us, we’re tired, but we’re going towards the goal and nothing will stop us,“ a student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Novi Sad, who is also the organizer of the „Let’s meet on Sretenje“ rally in Kragujevac, told N1.
On February 15, Serbia celebrates Statehood Day, while the Serbian Orthodox Church also commemorates Candlemas (Sretenje) on the same date. The first constitution of the Principality of Serbia was enacted on February 15, 1835 in Kragujevac.
Protests across Serbia, grand welcome for students in Kragujevac
„It was hard for us to establish a fast lane, we did not expect this many people. We are really proud, we have transmitted the atmosphere of Novi Sad with three bridges, we have made sure that traffic regulations are respected, we are passing on that torch,“ the same student added.
People’s support, he stressed, means a lot to them.
Kragujevac also woke up, he noted, and Sretenje is the perfect opportunity for that.
„We are persistent, they must be aware that we will not stop,“ the student emphasized.
On Friday evening, a large number of students arrived in Kragujevac – cyclists, marathon runners and those who went on foot. They were spectacularly welcomed in front of the municipality building, where a large number of people had gathered. Cyclists arrived in Kragujevac first, followed by marathon runners, and then pedestrians – first the „royal battalion“, as they were called, then the Novi Sad-Belgrade group, and as the „stars of the evening“ students from Nis arrived around 11 p.m. They went through the longest section, as much as 150 km.
