Mihailo Kolovic, an activist with the Kraljevo-based Local Front association who was detained Tuesday in Belgrade, was released later in the day after giving a statement as a citizen regarding an incident that occurred on Saturday in Novi Sad, it was confirmed to Danas.
“They detained me over an incident that took place on Saturday in Novi Sad, where a shop window was broken. They took me to the SIV (Federal Executive Council) building and held me there until inspectors from Novi Sad arrived. They then explained why I was there and said that I was probably mistaken for someone else. Apparently, someone in Novi Sad told them I was the person in the video who broke the window. I simply stated that it wasn’t me, that I wasn’t in Novi Sad that day, and that I didn’t even know about the incident until they informed me. After giving my statement, I was released immediately,” Kolovic told Danas.
Kolovic was taken from his apartment by six plainclothes individuals who identified themselves as police, but did not provide an explanation or show a warrant at the time.
“They only told me they had an order to detain me. They didn’t provide any further details or explanations,” he said.
Local Front activist Predrag Vostinic previously told Danas that the police briefly spoke with Kolovic’s girlfriend at the apartment door before calling Kolovic out to go with them, without showing a warrant or explaining the reason for his detention.
